Front Cover Designs

Thursday, February 9th, 2017

For this week I had to create the draft for three potential covers for the interactive book I was working on. Because I had photos in mind that don’t actually exist yet, I used stock photos as place-holders.

I completed this activity admittedly a bit slowly because I was finding suitable stock photos but once I did that it was easy to write the text portion of it.

If I had to do it again I’d have imagined images that are easier to find on google.

I was never actually able to recreate these photos but I think as a simple piece of preparatory work this is till I good example. The third photo described would’ve been my easiest to shoot because of it’s low-budget nature and out of the way setting.

The Wandering Jew – Act Three

Friday, February 3rd, 2017

Today I wrote the third act for the interactive book, since I ended up fully coming up with this ending today but I think I made it work.

I could’ve written this faster but I wanted to fill out the paragraphs more so that meant I had to put in my work on it and expand it properly. I think that expanding it was a good idea because it made the whole thing feel more cinematic and highlighted my talent at writing.

An interesting thing about writing this was that I wrote the beginning and ending paragraphs first and then came up with the middle so large portions of this story where improvised as I was writing them rather than having any formal plan.

My Work 02/02/17

Thursday, February 2nd, 2017

Now I’ve written the second act for my interactive book, this took awhile to write since the beginning and end came first and I had to fill out the middle. Looking back I really needed to make things bleed into the third act more effectively but as an individual piece I think it’s very well narrated and is a cinematic but brief draft that works.

I also had to create a flatplan for three potential covers, because I decided to create the later two covers myself with photography, for those I just included a text description of what these photo’s will look like.

Because I never actually took those photos I can’t say how they’d looked but I think these would function as a good synposis for any photographer or artist to recreate.

20-01-17 Work

Friday, January 20th, 2017

Over this week I’ve had to a form a profile for the audience I want to target which I then used as part of a presentation to pitch my ideas to the rest of my class.

Today though I’ve had to put the first act together first by dividing it into five key points and then writing out the first act as a draft.

act-one

On my tutors suggestion I ended up redoing act one in a first person prose style as opposed to the script format I was using, I think it came out much better.

For the five action points it took me awhile to break it down properly from how I had it set up before but I think it turned out fine

audience-profile

For the audience profile I honestly wasn’t sure what the purpose of some of these questions was or how to answer them but I ended up answering them satisfactorily

This pitch was a bit rushed because I’d only a day to do it but I ended up using the pitch sparing and improvising most of my presentation, I could’ve done better if I had more prep time to be honest.

Mythology Work 18.01.17

Wednesday, January 18th, 2017

Over the last week I’ve finished writing a text biography of the sole character in my story and collected a series of picture I think reflect the mood of how my piece will look

character-biography

Writing the character biography took much longer than it should’ve because to be honest I wasn’t sure how much backstory I really needed. After I showed it to my tutor he told me to expand upon the background by coming up with my own details (i.e specific location of the story and the protagonists current mindframe).

My tutor told me to write a fictitious diary entry from the characters perspective, which I did well enough for him to suggest I write my entire story in this first person format instead of the script form I was doing, which I took on board.

Mythology Work Task Four

Friday, January 6th, 2017

For the fourth task I had to first write a 150 word synopsis of how I plan to tell the story. Secondly I had to compose the plot into three acts within the five point structure.

I think I finished this work pretty quickly as I already had a good idea of what I wanted to do with it. I like how this work turned out even if it was pretty basic.

In the future I could perhaps make things more interesting to read as far as structure andd language used even though this was just a plan.

Mythology work 05.01.17

Friday, January 6th, 2017

This week we started on work about mythology, for this task we had to compile five pieces of mythology/folklore then select one to create three ideas to make stories out of.

I think I could’ve came up with my ideas quicker but when I got the ideas I think I created it well enough.I always intended to use the Wandering Jew story so the rest of the five folk tales was basically just filler.

Next I have to plan out the actual story.

My Evaluation – Jack Day

Thursday, December 15th, 2016

So I’ve finally finished and uploaded my music video and posted it online, so here is my evaluation of it.

For the assignment I created a music video for a song I’d previously made, which I did by combining original footage of my friend doing graffiti with footage from iconic Hip-Hop videos, I also recorded myself performing the lyrics but that was left out of the finished video. I recorded the live portions with my friend and then proceeded to add the stock footage in adobe premiere.

The editing process was more complicated because I had to get tight loops from small portions of each video and the footage of me miming wasn’t good enough to use, after a few rough drafts I sent to my teacher I ended up replacing some footage and playing with the opacity some more. The first time I did it I ended up misplacing my USB so parts of it I ended up having to re-do completely when making the final, released version of the video.

What I think worked with the piece was the combination of opiated stock footage over live footage and the art present in the live footage. What I think wasn’t as great was that some of the clips could’ve had a smoother cutting process and I could’ve done the video much quicker. I also departed from the shooting script considerably since I ended up not using the footage of me performing and never actually filmed some of the imagery I planned to because of time constraints and the concept not fitting with the filmed footage.

If I had to do it again I would have sorted out the shooting script and got filming done quicker, I would’ve worked out a clearer plan and gotten better edits of certain clips. On other facets of my work I could’ve made some of the blog posts more detailed and thorough as well as make my shooting script more achievable.

From this assignment I’ve learned about working within a time limit and adapting to opposing circumstances. I’ve had to critically access both finished and unfinished work then make the required changes, overall I’ve learned a lot from today.

Blog Update 9/12/16

Friday, December 9th, 2016

This week I reviewed my video and I’ve been reworking my it because of edits that needed to be made. Firstly the Planet Rock video clips of break dancing had a watermark at the bottom that was deemed to distracting so I replaced it from footage from the dance battle in beat street.Secondly I had to move around certain clips to make it perfectly match and music and thirdly I had sections from the graph video come back at the end of the video after the music ends to highlight the finished art on the wall, at long last I added the credits and exported it.

Here is the finished video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lhQ5GkSkgKo&feature=youtu.be

The main thing I’ve learned from this is how to get better loops and  to opiate videos clearly. I’ve also learned about working quickly and transferring my ideas to a finished product.

Work update 30/11/16

Wednesday, November 30th, 2016

As of today, I’m nearly finished with the editing process, all the footage is collected and most of it is assembled and edited properly. I just need to put the finishing touches on it and include and ending credits and it’s finished.
